First Spur Praying in the Spirit

April 17, 2010

After hearing the message this Sunday I was convicted of not being as encouraging or spurring on as I should. I sincerely beg your forgiveness. I have been self focused lately and have forgotten those who have cared so well for us.

Specifically what God has presed on my heart to spur you on with has come from our study and discussions on first Corinthians regarding the provision of praying in the spirit. It’s easy to forget it and just pray in our known language. God though does not want us to hide it under a bushel. He wouldn’t have given it to us to just let it lay dormant. So my encoragement to you is to be an example to your family and exercise this gift daily. It will surely increase your strength and faith and communicate to God needs and worship only our spirit knows. Below is some scripture regarding this gift. Let’s persue this wonderful gift of grace.

2 Timothy 1:6

6For this reason I remind you(A) to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands,

Romans 8:26
Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

1 Corinthians 14:15,2
So what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my mind; I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my mind.
2For anyone who speaks in a tongue[a] does not speak to men but to God. Indeed, no one understands him; he utters mysteries with his spirit.

Ephesians 6:18
And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.

Jude 1:20
But you, dear friends, build yourselves up in your most holy faith  praying in the Holy Spirit.
